Swissôtel Vertical Marathon 2005

(The 73 Storeys high Swissotel, The Stamford)

Today I have completed in another stair-climbing event. It is the Swissôtel Vertical Marathon which was held at the Swissôtel The Stamford, A Raffles International Hotel @ City Hall (Southeast Asia's tallest hotel). This is my 2nd time taking part in the stair-climbing event, but this is my 1st year taking on this vertical marathon. My previous stair-climbing event was the National Vertical Marathon 2005 (comprising of 51 storeys), held earlier in January this year.

In this race, all the participants have to climb up to the hotel rooftop with a total of 73 storeys comprising of 1336 steps. This is my first time climbing up so many storeys and it was quite a challenging one. The participants were flagged out in a group of 8 person at a time.

For me, I took part in the 20 to 29 age group category and my group was flagged off at around 8+am. It was tough between the 40th and 60th storey, but I endure all the way up by holding on to the staircase railing for support.I managed to climbed up to the top of the hotel with a timing of 11 min 33 sec and was given a medal for the completion of the event. It was a great experience standing on top of a tall building looking at the panoramic view of Singapore, despite a alightly bad weather in the morning. It was very windy on top and it was really wonderfully standing at this great high. I also took some photos on top of the building.

From the news, I heard that the oldest participant was a 79 year old man whom having been participating the event every year. Whereas the fastest Man and Woman conquered the building in around 8 min and 11 min respectively. Wah! It was really fast in completed 73 storeys in 8+ min. How the guy do it, fly up the stair? Ha:)Anyway, I have a great time today and i think I will take part in this event again next year. :)Oh! got to get back to my study. Now is examination period. Only relaxing a while before going to the exam battle again. hai.
