This 217km Kiehl’s Badwater Ultramarathon challenge will be undertaken by 2 local long distance runners, Mr Lim Nghee Huat, 54 (Mediacorp Editor) and Mr Yong Yuen Cheng, 36 (NJC Physics teacher) from tomorrow 18 July to 20 July for charity purposes of raising fund. These 2 runners are actually the 2 out of the 3 runners who had completed the NTU 168km Run Round Singapore race 2 years ago in 2005 if u all still remember. (Refer to my earlier blog on 3rd Oct 2005).
The 2 runners target to complete the 217km (approx = 5x normal marathon distance of 42km) within 50 hours, starting from the US California’s Death Valley and ending at the Mount Whitney Portals with vertical elevation of 4000m. In addition to that, they also need to endure through extreme temperature of > 50ºC during the race. Wah!!
I really hope both of them can get through the race eventually and become the first two runners from South East Asia to conquer the race. Cheers. : ) For those of u who are interesting, do watch the Channel 8 evening news from 18 to 20 July 2007 to catch the progress of the 2 runners during the race. FYI. The 2 runners will start the race on 18 July, Wednesday at 11pm Singapore time. Do watch out for it.
There is also a real time satellite tracking system of the 2 runners’ progress on the website (URL below) during their run from 18 to 20 July if u all are interested to follow.
