Yesterday, 3 November 2007, I went to city area with my other 10 colleagues for the company flag day. Basically, the fund raised from the Flag Day is used in term of social, financial, educational purposes for helping the needy children and also for the children whose parent are prisoner. First time hearing about fund raising for prisoner’s children. Normally it’s for those needy children, disabled, elderly, medically needy people.
We started in the late morning till the mid afternoon for a 4 hours fund raising in the busy and city area of orchard. It’s been a long time since I go Flag Day fund raising again. The last time was when I was studying during my poly days.
During the 4 hours period, I grouped with another colleague, HK whom was the eldest among the group of us, whom volunteered willingly for the Flag Day. I walked with him along the street of orchard road till we reached Far East plaza where we stationed there longer for our work.
In the process, I was trying hard to gather the fund, some successful while some failed. My first donator was a young girl standing alone outside the MRT station. After she donated, she even asked me the location of a building. That’s when my slim street directory comes in handy again. Haha.
In between, the process, the largest single amount that I received was from a middle age foreign country lady whom donated $5 since she has no small change. Haha. Another interesting case was that I received one 100 Japanese Yen coin from a lady whose is a Chinese but Husband is Japanese. They have no small change, so asked me whether I can accept Japanese yen coin. Haha. The other interesting donator was a middle age woman whom claimed she was out of job when I approached her, but in the end she was still kind to donate a $2 note. A kind person indeed and so I wished her good luck for her job hunting as she left.
Anyway, it was another fruitful day for me. In addition, 3 Cheers toHK for working so hard for the fund and he is one interesting and friendly middle age man in his 50’s that I have met so far. Always cheerful and cracking jokes with us. Haha.
