(Full Marathon Race near 41km mark)
Today, I participated in the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon race once again. This year, I took the 21km race again instead of the 42km race. I know I do not really have the time to train for it so I have chosen 21km. FYI. The sponsor for this year is changed from Adidas to New Balance. I know quite a few people have objections or showing unhappiness in forum, but I think no choice as we still need to face the fact about it. This year, all runners were given another tag for writing some encouragement for other runners and I have written some too.
(Encouragement Tag)
This time round, I was running alone for the 21km where WR, KT and KY took the 42km race. It has been quite some time since I run a 21km race alone.
This year, I only noticed 1 weird guy in my 21km race category who was wearing a sarong while running his race. Is it really that comfortable wearing sarong to run a race? Hehe.
Anyway, I continue my run with a constant speed for the first 15km or so. After the 15km mark, I started to get lazy again and walk in the race… :( Don’t know why… After walking to the 19km or 20km mark, I noticed a few 42km race pacers (with 4.00hr cut off timing printed on their back of T-shirt) and with balloons tied to their back too.
This year, my 21km timing is slightly better than last year’s standard chartered 21km and this year army half marathon race. There is some improvement but the timing is still considered quite slow for a normal 21km runner…
After my race, I rested for a while before I proceed to the Esplanade Bridge to wait and cheer for WR before I proceed to the underside of the Esplanade Bridge to cheer for KT when the traffic diversion is back to normal at 11am. When all of us finished our race, we took a group photo at the bag deposit area. Actually KY should have joined us for the photo session, but he is not feeling well after the race, so I told him to go back home to rest.

Later I took a light lunch with WR, KT and his gf before I took a bath before I proceeded to my army friend’s baby shower celebration at Orchard Hotel at around 3+pm.Today is really a long day for me…
Next year, I will try harder again to reduce my 21km timing for the standard Chartered 21km race if possible… Now my next challenge in Dec 09 is the upcoming Tiong Bahru Challenge on the 13 Dec 2009 where the runners need to run a 5km distance, followed by climbing a 30 storey HDB flat. I am looking forward to that race too. :)

Hi Is the bib compulsory to wear during the race? Why have I seen so many without the bib in one of your photo shoots?
Hi. It is compulsory to wear the bib during the race. It will indicate which race category that you are running.
At the back of the bib, particular of the runner can be written in the event of any emergency.
Oh. Some of the runners are pinning the bib at the back of their singlet or at the waist level. If not, their bib is been blocked by other runners running pass them. That is why you cannot see it.
As the usual practice, the bib is pinned at the front of the singlet at the chest level.
Hi Sir, do we have to register our name based on our IC or we just hand in names according to our wish?
Can I eliminate my Chinese name and just stick with my english name?
E.g: my name is Bradyen Chan Wei Jian in my IC. Can I just register as Bradyen Chan for the race?
Hi Bradyen,
I think it should not be a problem registering with Christian name and surname only even though I have not tried before.
If I did not remember wrongly, during the online registration, they prompt the participant to key in the given name and family name, but should be okay to key in given name as Christian name.
