NVM 2007 - 60 Storey Race, Here I come!!

(Photos with my detail members)

Yesteday (25th Feb 2007) was my 3rd attempt in my school NTU National Vertical Marathon (NVM) event that was held at the Republic Plaza near Raffles Place MRT Station, which consisting 66 storeys – 280m height (so call mentioned as the “tallest” building of Singapore in the NVM official website, but when I looked from far, I feel that the UOB Building near to it is much taller than this building leh.)

This time around, there was something special as the bag can only be deposited at the specific holding area just before the race for each detail starts and there was also an electronic security scanning check at the start point, just to ensure that nobody bring any bombs or whatsoever dangerous stuff inside the building bah. Another thing is that, I also saw our NTU Dean of Student, A/P Lok Tat Seng visiting the event venue during the early morning of about 8+ am. Good to see him around. :)

Before my race starts, I met quite a few friends at the venue, such as my NTU schoolmates and also some army friends too. But as I was late for registration, I was in the later detail different from them. Back to the starting point, I was in a detail of about 5 person and we started to move off when the signal was given to us to start the race. As usual, I used my normal pace technique of climbing 2 steps at a time and the first 10 to 20 storey was still quite okay for me, but whenever getting on to the 20+ storey, legs started to slow down and I have to rely on the hand railing and the wall to support me up for the rest of the race.

Along the way, the volunteers give us some moral support by cheering for us and offering us drinks. Good support from them. I just thank them for offering the drink, but I just continued enduring on the race without getting any drinks at all. My mind is just to complete the race ASAP and I also tried not to look at the storey numbers & just continue climbing, but then I will still looked at the storey no. Don’t know why. Haha. Finally I reached the 60 storey, which is also the finishing point (61 to 66 storey is out of bound to us, too bad, cannot go up to the roof :( ) with a timing of 11min 58sec, which is considered quite good for me as my previous climb was 1 years ago. After resting for a while at the finishing point, some detail group photos were taken before we took the lift down to the ground level.

Back to the ground level after the race, before I collect my goodie bag, I also witnessed some side events of PlayStation 2 “Winning Eleven” competition held at the NVM holding area in conjunction with NVM event (which was newly added entertainment for the others. Ha. Other than that, I also took some photos at the events.

But one thing I was disappointed was that I did not get to see the guy who always appeared wearing the Spiderman costume (for entertainment purpose) for the past 2 years’ event and also the 80 years old uncle who always took part in this event every year without fail. But I realized that his race will only start in the afternoon as he was signed in as the veteran category.

Anyway, I have a great time there, and hope new surprises appeared in next year's event. Higher storey!? Here I come again…
