Yesterday afternoon, 29 September 2007, I went to Chek Jawa Wetland with my friend for exploration. Chek Jawa is situated at the eastern part of Pulau Ubin (Open daily from 8.30am to 6pm). If one wants to see more stuff, it is best to visit there when the water tide is lower. More accurate information on the water tide can be found in the Npark website below.

That date, We took the bumboat at Changi Point Ferry Terminal to Pulau Ubin and hired bicycles for cycling to Check Jawa via the Jalan Ubin & Jalan Durian trail of Pulau Ubin, which took us 20+ minutes of cycling time for overcoming some steep upslopes and downslopes. Haha
Upon reaching Punai Hut outside Chek Jawa Wetland, we parked our bicycle beside some trees without even locking the bicycles since other bicycles could also be seem lying around unlocked. From the Punai Hut, we took a short walk to the info kiosk and visitor centre of Chek Jawa. At the Visitor Centre, we could see the sea view and a viewing jetty and a 77 years old Tudor-style cottage built in 1930, which is now restored and converted as a visitor centre.
After that, we moved on to the 500 metre Mangrove Boardwalk for exploration. Just at the entrance to Mangrove Boardwalk, we noticed a 21 metre tall Jejawi Tower constructed using timber platform supported by 4 steel hollow section columns and the tower is able to support 20 people each time with imposed load of 4 kN/m2. ha. Get use to seeing such detail already.
On top of the tower, we were able to cat ch a panoramic view of Chek Jawa, but most of them were trees, except for one part where we could view the seagrass lagoon located nearby. Near the tower, we also saw a young couple, the guy upper body bare and the gal wearing bikini. wah. maybe they came from the Noordin Beach, that's why wearing like that.
From the tower, we moved round the Mangrove Boardwalk and saw an interesting fruit called Nipah Palm where we can get our “Attap Chee” found in ice-kacang and ice jelly with the mangrove trees and mangroves. Haha.
From the mangrove boardwalk, we moved on to the 600 metres long Coastal Boardwalk, starting with the Seagrass Lagoon. But we did not noticed anything special there but only the green seagrass and some small crabs. Perhaps we are standing on the Boardwalk bah. After that we moved further up to the Floating Pontoon where we could see some research work being carried out at the Sandbar by the Npark personnels and some free public guided tour arranged by Npark. Hence for other DIY visitors, we were not able to get down to the sandbar to further exploration. Hai… But to get the free guided tour from Npark is also not easy, as it is already fully booked few months back in advance. Dates are available every quarterly period.
From the Floating Pontoon, we moved on to the Rocky Shore and the Coral Rubble and took some photos of flora and fauna but we don’t know what the names are also… After that we finished the Coastal Boardwalk and got back to Punai Hut to retrieve our bicycle for riding back to Pulau Ubin Jetty. Before getting on the bumboat, I also took a sunset photo at Pulau Ubin Jetty, Quite nice. Anyway it was a great day at Chek Jawa indeed, except we were not able to see some stuff and getting down to the Sandbar.
