Archifest Exhibition 2007

Yesterday, 8 Dec 2007, I went to the Archifest exhibition at City Hall with 2 of my classmates, DY and FW sine it is the last day of the exhibition. We met for lunch before proceeding to the exhibition.

It is also my first time entering into the City Hall, since I will normally walk past it along Padang area but never have I stepped inside the building before. As we stepped into the building, we did not proceeded to the Archifest exhibition at Level 3, but we chose to view of the Brazilian architectural design and Korean Product design exhibition showcase at Level 1 of City Hall.

At Level 1, we saw a few unique Brazilian architectural designs such as their Church and National Library and also quite a bit of innovative weird product design from the Korean.

Later on, we proceeded on to Level 4, saw another Utterubbish exhibition, but as it is not FOC, hence we proceeded on to the Chamber at Level 3 to view the main FOC Archifest exhibition which we were there for.

The first exhibit that we saw were the 3 main designs concept of the New National Arts Gallery which will be converted from the former Supreme Court and the City Hall. See the 3 models below.

The next exhibit that we saw is the design concept of a Pavilion that will be implemented at the open area in between the Hereen and Faber House at Orchard Road. There are quite a few fanciful design that we saw, but will surprised to see that the winning design was the one with a container concept… 

We also visit the toilet there and found that the taps that are used there are those type with old turning knob design and one classic automatic hand dryer. I think hardly find at other places. Ha.

Later on our last stop was the exhibit in another chamber at Level 3 showcasing the design concept of the Marina South Urban Development. We saw several design concepts which were both innovative and unique such as one with sail shapes, one with name “Super Kelong” and one with Oral shaped design. But some designs may not be presentable or buildable such as one with Pancake shape with many tunnels linking inside, one with mushroom shapes and the other was the one with many green “dog bones”. View some of the design concepts of the Marina South Urban Development below. Anyway, it was a great day and experience visiting the exhibition at the City Hall.
