Last night, while I was watching the Mandarin evening news, I was surprised to see a report on the future development of my Alma Mater, Pearl’s Hill Primary School. It will eventually be converted into a $13 million hotel called “Hotel Re!”, housing 140 rooms and due to be opened by end of April 2008.
This primary school building is the tallest primary school in Singapore since it has 12 storeys and where in Singapore can you find such a tall primary school. Haha. I am quite proud that I am one of the students there. The school is over 100 years of history even though it has relocated a few venues in the past.
I actually knew that it was closed down in 2001 due to the shortage of student intake and eventually converted into student hostel, but until now then I know it will be converted into a hotel. The hotel is in the process of renovation and should have be completed by end of year 2007 but the completion date will be postponed to this year die to changes of plan.
It is quite sad for me that Pearl’s Hill Primary School will be gone forever, but it will not be left lonely at the edge of the hill since the hotel will bring more life to it. The luckiest thing is that the overall building will be retained and not demolished for other development for the time being, other than the hotel. So there is still a chance to visit it again but for different purposes. But then staying in that hotel also expensive. $280 to $700 per room per day. haha
Below is the article and video on the developing hotel:
