New Arch Bridge

(The chinese article on the new arch bridge - click on it for enlarged view)

I read the MyPaper today and found out that a new arch bridge project will be constructed at the marina area linking Esplanade and Merlion Park in the near future.

Below is the translation of the article above:

Before the new “The Double Helix” Bridge is completed, URA already has plan to construct a new arch bridge beside the existing Esplanade Bridge, linking Merlion Park and Esplanade to allow visitors to view the beautiful scenery at the marina area.

The existing 2m wide pedestrian bridge beside the Esplanade Bridge is not able to cater for the large capacity of people especially during CNY countdown and other special events. The new 6m wide pedestrian bridge will be constructed next to the Esplanade Bridge facing the direction of the sea and the centre portion of the bridge will be linked to the existing bridge.

The total distance for the new bridge is estimated to be similar to the 290m long “The Double Helix” bridge that is under constructed currently and the total estimated project cost is around $20 million. Currently URA has placed tender noticed to invite interested consultancy parties to tender for the project. URA is still looking at the situation on when the construction for the new arch bridge project to commence. During the construction, the existing bridge is still available to access to the public.

Once the new arch bridge is completed, it will eventually improve the linking network between Merlion Park and the Esplanade and also the overall experience and attraction of the 3.5km Marina walking loop to be completed by end of this year.
