Yesterday, 18 July 2009, I participated in the H-Two-O Challenge in the Biathlon Category with WR and his friend, YM. I don’t know about this event and it is WR who mentioned to me about that. KT was supposed to join us for the event, but tied up with work.
This Biathlon Challenge consists of a 400m swim (8 laps of 50m) in the swimming pool of Nanyang Polytechnic + a 4km run round the campus. I have actually participated in such event once during my study in University which I still remembered it is the NIE biathlon.
The race commenced at 8.30am with the youth category + staff category, followed by the open category that we registered. Each participate need to have their tag number written on both their arms and legs so as to indicate themselves because there is no number tag taken down. Since there is no fixed rule for the participants to start their race in sequence of the tag number, so whoever queue up first can have their race start early. For the 3 of them, we took our own sweet time to wait and queue up at the last batch of the male detail.
(Tag Number written on arms with marker pen)
For me, I have not went for swimming for quite some time, so it can be quite tiring for me to swim 400m followed by a 4km run, but anyway, I just tried my best to swim the 8 laps of 50m slowly using Breast Stroke in around 14minutes, followed by a 4 km run (2 rounds of 2km) which I took around 24 minutes. Overall timing is alright, but I think I can still have a better timing. WR actually finished the race first and waited near the turning point to the finishing area to cheer me up. His friend, YM finished the race around 4 minutes later after I completed the race. She was the first participate to start the race in her female category, which is just queuing behind me (I am the last male participate) during the swim.
I remembered during the swim section, there is 1 participant who tried to act smart or just want to show up by using different swimming sytle during his swimming race. In his 1 first 50m lap, he was the only one who used Butterfly stroke, followed by Free style in the 2nd lap, Back stroke in his 3rd lap and breast stroke in his 4th lap, then for his remaining laps, he used breast stroke and free style... Don't know he is trying to do. Getting attention from everyone....
Anyway, it was a fun and challenging day for me, WR and YM to complete the race. I hope we can participate in this event again next year if there is any.
