KPE Swing run

(Holding area at starting point & view inside the tunnel)

Today, I participated in the KPE swing run in the 12km long underground expressway which will be opened to public driver next week.

The worst thing is that I did not get any sleep at all on the previous night as I went for my sec sch gathering till 3+am and rush home to prepare for the running gears and took early train to kovan to meet wr, eve, sab for the run.

The race started as early as 8.30am and I think we waited for approx. 20+min before we reached the starting point to begin the run because there was a big crowd over there…As it is the mooncake festival on the event day, there is a portion of the tunnel, where it is in partial darkness and runners were given the small red lanterns to light up at these stretch. It was an interesting idea, but it was dangerous and tough running in the darkness also, as you don’t know whether you will hit on somebody/something.

As the run proceed on, I was separated from the 3 of them, as I was running the 10km route and they were running the 5km fun run route instead. Nevertheless, I still continue the race myself on the boring route as there is nothing much to see in the tunnel expressway. It was also quite hot in the tunnel itself during the run and I can feel that there is lack of oxygen even though proper ventilation is provided throughout the tunnel.

After the race, each of us received a cert and goodie bag and next we proceed to wait for the free shuttle bus back to kovan. It was a long wait for the bus and we need to queue under the hot sun for about 45min or so before we broad the bus… Another thing to mention was that I heard from wr and also from the news, a photographer knocked off in the tunnel and was brought to the hospital for treatment... What a sad thing to hear about…
